Default LG gp08 slim problems - 05-09-2009, 05:49 PM

I cannot get the lg gp08 slim dvd drive to be recognized by my ubuntu mini. can anyone help. i really dont understand much about ubuntu

I have this same drive - it's likely a power issue, not OS. Use the separate USB power cable included with the drive to give it some extra juice.

Thanks for responding, yeah I tried that and it still didn't recognize the drive, do you have any other suggestions?

Try it on another computer? Try a different USB slot?

Go find a really heavy duty USB cable. ( nice and thick ). That will carry current better. I had the same problem with my iomagic drive and a heavier cable fixed things.

The LG comes with a separate power cable. You might try plugging that into an AC-USB adapter to make sure it has enough power. Hasn't been an issue for me.
