Default Dell mini 10v LCD discussion - 07-12-2010, 02:51 PM

I noticed that my mini 10v's display doesn't show natural colors, so I compared it with some other brand netbooks (asus, acer, zyrex, and HP).
Here are what I've found:
1. The black color is not really deep black, it is black but it tends to little bit blue and purple.
2. The White color looks warm.
3. Some color looks like have cold temp, while the others looks like have warm temp.

FYI: I used the same color profile with standard white point when comparing my display with the other brand netbooks.

My friends told me that it's not a big problem, because for their eyes, the differences aren't to noticeable, but for me it's a big problem.
I know it can be solved by calibrating the color profile, but I want to know:
Is it normal?
How about your mini 10v?

I haven't noticed anything on my 10v, but I don't stare at a blank screen to see if it's black, or blue and purple.

I'll have to go with your friends opinions.

That's what my friends said (they also said that it's kinda wasting time staring at blank screen), but they also told me that my mini's LCD has better colors then their netbooks when watching movies (when watching movies or viewing photos the black color looks that it's real black and the other colors look like they should be), but when seeing blank screen with only one color the color looks like it shouldn't be like that.
Soon when I have spare time I'll come to DELL store to complaint it.

Yeah, if it's under warranty get a hold of Dell and see what you can do.

Okay, but before I do it, would you help me?
Maybe it's wasting time for you.
Would you like to check your mini's LCD colors by staring at it with black blank screen and white blank screen?
Please let me know how it looks like.
Thanks.

Sure, I pretty much do that all day at work anyway!

I have family in from out of town, they're using it for a few days but after I'll check it out.
I must admit I'm a little curious now about this anomaly.

I have a Dell mini 10v with 1024x576 pixels and compared its screen to my ohter laptop, a Compaq 615.

I switched into a console (linux) and compared the deep black, in fact its a bit blue. The compaq is more red.

White is also a bit colder than the compaqs screen.

my conclusion: the dells display is a bit colder than the other one, not only for black and white, but also for all the other colors.

For me this is no problem, as my eyes get quickly used to each of the screens. When i am on the mini for a long time and switch to the Compaq i realise that its warmer and for few seconds white looks like pink, but after few seconds white is white again. Back to the dell white is lite Blue/green for some seconds.

most of this I think is because of the 10v, which is incapable of HD display, the color on my1010 with the HD screen is very true to my $2000 HP 17inch with 1440x900 res.... which aint too bad I think...just my 0.02....
