Default problem booting Streak - 07-07-2011, 05:34 PM

My Dell Streak won't turn on - it simply hangs on the Dell logo. I've tried troubleshooting (reset, removing battery, cards... etc.). The battery status is charging, so that's ok.

It was working fine before. I've had it for several months without this trouble... so please, what's the next step?

When you plug in the charger, what percentage of charge shows on the screen?

Whilst you are charging, you can check to see if the percentage is increasing , by quickly and lightly pressing the power on/off button.

Will the device function normally if you boot up whilst on charge?

Charging is ok. It charged from 20% earlier today increasing in 10% steps, and is now 100% fully charged.

I don't think the battery is the problem. Whether on battery or cable the logo stays on-screen with the function lights permanently on.

Are you able to get into the recovery image (Volume + and - held down while pressing power)? If you can, you might want to flash the ROM version you're using (e.g. 351 for an unlocked Streak).

You might also try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery.

Thanks, but I’ve now make arrangements with Dell to have it repaired. I was able to access recovery but my limited knowledge in that area prevented me from going any further.

What concerns me is the fact it might happen again a few months down the line. A number of Streak users have had exactly the same problem – and it’s the only device, pmp, laptop… etc. I’ve used where a reset, a hard reset at that, doesn’t fix it.

Perhaps I should read up on the things you suggest, Strephon, in case it does happen again.

I to have just had this experience just the other day, and im traumatised !!
I got into diagnostic mode and ran the tests and it appears to be an issue with the sdcard and simcard carriage.
I called o2 who are happy to have it shipped to them for repair or replacement, but seeing rumours of it now being discontinued im getting concerned what the replacement would be if it was to unecconomic to repair?

Ill update when i know more
