Default Windows 7 upgrade - 04-01-2011, 09:16 PM

I have a Mini 9 with 2GB of RAM and a 16GB SSD. I have a Dell Windows 7 disk (home premium) and was wondering if my 16GB SSD is big enough to handle Windows 7 and still leave me enough room to actual use it?

This is my wife's mini and she pretty much only surf's the web and uses email. I have Outlook installed currently, but would be ok with not using outlook if that would take up too much space.

I'm new to this forum, so any help is appreciated.\

I ran Windows 7 Ultimate on mine with the same hardware and experienced no problems at all. I didn't even tweak my setup that much because it all ran so well.

By modern standards The Mini 9 is getting "long in the tooth", so at this point stuff like setting up an optimized Windows 7 installation is a well documented thing.

I would do a few searches here and in the Windows 7 forums.
You should be able to find the latest links for drivers and any other tweaks you want to apply.

Best of luck on the new install!

With 2GB RAM you can get rid of the pagefile and get back a lot of space. Disable hibernation if you need more.

16GB is tight but usable.

You could also benefit from using an SD card for expanded storage.

Leave the OS on the SSD and offload a lot of data to a card.
