can you take a pic of it open from behind (looking at the dell logo) please?!?!
just curious what it looks like open w/ the battery extending beyond the screen's hinge.
There is sooooo much glare it's hard to get a good picture, but here's what I got.

Someone mentioned the mini PCI card slots are under the palmrest. Until we get a manual, you might need to pull every screw from the bottom of the unit (and a few from under the keyboard) to release the top from the bottom... I see at least three silver-headed screws in the photo.

Thanks for the photos!

That got me wondering so I compaired it to a 10V (with a 3 cell pack) and it's longer by about a half inch, a tiny bit wider, a tiny bit taller, and 6.5 ounces heaver! But the weight doesn't really count because you're compairing a 3 cell to a 6 cell. With no batteries installed the 1012 is one ounce heavier. So not too bad.

I hadn't realized it was a different size.

Oh well, whacha gonna do?

I do like that the power plugs in the back instead of the side and that it has a HDD activity LED.

I'm ashamed to admit I hadn't even turned it on. I've been working on 10v's and hadn't even been able to get to it other than to take pictures for you guys.

Sorry. I'll turn it on and see if I can keep it from sleeping long enough to check some battery life. It looks like it's fully charged because I pluged in the charger and the light did not come one.

Well at least I don't have to update the bios yet. The website has A04 and the computer has A04. It did ship with a Western Digital hard drive.

That's not good, it's locked up already. I made Win 7 Starter mad when I rebooted in the middle if it's setup.

Oh well!

It's interesting, the camera has a silver bezel around it. I like the all black better. The camera is too noticable now.

Uh, starter is happy again!

---------- Post added at 04:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:16 PM ----------

Well it's up and running. I'll switch this over to it and unplug at exactly 4:30 MST and try to keep it going!

Okay this is from the 1012!

Okay, disconnecting from power NOW!

Wow, the server's clock is off by two minutes!

Okay, I've turned off all the power savings and sleep functions. So this will be a worst case senerio.

Wow, thanks for all the pics, and the time to take and post them for us

1st of all, good luck with your new Mini

now, MY opinions....just mine mind you...not everyones

Likes:
Easily upgradeable memory
Flush sitting 6 cell battery
Disk looks easier to get to also
Hard Drive Activity Light
Power plugs in from the back

Dislikes:

The 2 tone top and bottom
The bottom of the unit looks very cheaply made
The way that the back of the unit sticks out past the screen.....LCD is not flush or behind like the others
When the unit is closed the back extends past the LCD
They still didnt add an eject button for the flash cards....cards still stick out
VGA port instead of HDMI port
Webcam is way too noticeable..kinda stands out

Undecided:
The new palm rest and touch pad..kinda like the old silver better

But Good Luck again...and let us know anything else you may learn..

I agree with everything you said except I don't mind the black palmrest instead of the chrome. I didn't really like the shiny.

BTW been running aprox 37 minutes and battery says 93% 7 hours and 44 minutes remaining

Well it's been 4 hours now and it has 52% 2 hours and 56 minutes remaining it says.

Just light setup and internet work but full brightness screen and no sleeping hard drive.

---------- Post added at 09:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:34 PM ----------

At 5 hours it says 40% and 3 hours and 13 minutes.

---------- Post added at 10:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:30 PM ----------

At 6:00 hours it says 28% and 2 hours and 14 minutes remaining.

---------- Post added at 11:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:30 PM ----------

Wow, at 7:00 hours, it says 16%, an hour and 23 minutes remaining!

Well the power light has changed to orange and I'm getting warning messages that it is going to hibernate.

It actually hibernated while I was typing this message. It lasted almost exactly 7 hours and 30 minutes. That's with the screen never dimming and on this very white web page. Not much activity, just refreshing the web page every now and then and fighting with McAfee to keep it from rebooting. So that's pretty darn good battery life.

After using it for a while now I have some good and bad points to add.

First, it does not get anywhere near as hot as my 10v did, at least not with this level of activity. I have not upgraded to two gigs of ram yet.

Secondly, it was much easier to work with the 10v with the 6 cell pack. It was like a handle and made the unit easy to balance and hang on to. This one is not as easy.
