Question Is there a hidden VGA? - 05-04-2011, 04:16 PM

Saw this a while ago but never thought of sharing it

This is using the standard Dell install that it ships with, so if you've formatted then I don't know if the option is still there, but:
  • Right-click on the Desktop
  • Click Screen Resolution
  • On the right, click Detect
  • Click Another Display
  • It will then say "Display output available on Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 3150"
  • Hit that then click Multiple Displays and it will say Try to Connect Anyway on VGA

Does this mean the Graphics Card has something you can connect a VGA port to onto it?

It would surely have a better refresh rate than one of the USB adapters

Interesting question.
My guess is that the chipset was originally designed for machines that have external video capability.
I'm also guessing that while the wording still reflects the capability, Dell has probably left out the other components external to the chips themselves that are necessary to achieve external video in an effort to reduce production costs.
