From the instructions looks like you need an external optical drive to install.

They're cheap and very easy to find. I got a 5.25 internal SATA drive + an external enclosure for just a hair over $40. Or you can get a slim one that's a bit slower than that setup for just under $40

Will NetbookBootMaker work to install 10.6 on a Dell XPS Studio 1645?

Default Fusion & Parallels on Dell Mini-10v & OSX - 03-28-2010, 01:08 AM

I have been running Fusion 3.01 and Windows XP on my Mini-10v with good success . . . . except that Fusion is pretty slow.

In fact, I have found that Fusion 3.10 is slow, even on my high-powered iMac.

Recently I bought a copy of Parallels 5 and installed in on my iMac alongside Fusion 3.01, both with Windows 7. Parallels clearly is much faster and appears to be more stable.

So . . . . I attempted to install Parallels 5 on my Mini-10v tonight and I got the following message: "Parallels will not be installed on this machine. A Mac that runs virtualization is required." (This is not an exact quote, but close.) And, that was the end of that; nothing I could do.

Is there any workaround to this ? Has anyone else found a way to install Parallels 5 ?

Thanks for any comments you can provide.

Regards,
L

Can someone give me an idea whether or not it is okay to do delta updates (as distinct from the Combo Updates) via Software Update with this latest release?

Also, once I install my 10.6 retail image patched with NetbookBootMaker, when installing 10.6.2 do I have to run NetbookInstaller?

Thanks.

yes, run NBI after update to 10.6.2

Mini 10v (Black) - BIOS A06 - Mac OS X 10.6.0 - 1GB RAM - 320GB HDD (7200 rpm) - NBM via USB - NBI (ending with 51) - Legacy Off

Had a happy 10.6.6 machine and updated to 10.6.7, but no love...maybe I'll do a vanilla install...but probably not.

Parallels requires VT-x virtualization which the Atom processor in the 10v lacks. I am not aware of any workaround for this.

@starkruzr

A Delta-Updater does an update from (for example) 10.6.2 to 10.6.3, say one step only.

A combo-Updater includes all necessary updates from 10.6.0 up

The advantage of the combo is, when you do a complete OSX install, you dont have
to make serveral delta-updates. (only one combo)

So, its the same, if you do delta or combo, if you need to go only one step up.

I forgot, as far as I remember, you need to use NBI again before reboot.
(until NBI 0.8.3)
please wait on another reply.
