Default Update your Flash plugin if you are running SL - 09-04-2009, 08:30 PM

The version of Flash installed with SL is an old version and is vulnerable to malware attacks. Read about it, or watch the video-

Ok, so the chances of watching video are pretty slim right now with no audio on our mini's, but I figured everyone should know about the security risk.

Plus, I am already running a newer version of Flash than Snow Leopard comes with on my 10.5.8 install, so it is a good idea to upgrade the plug-in, even if the security issue doesn't seem like a big deal to you, IMHO.

I've read different opinions on the severity of the risk but it's nice to know the Flash is being downgraded.

Not trying to be an alarmist, but it is good to know, and could lead to frustration if you didn't know about it.

Yeah, I would expect SL to be updated pretty soon, based on the other sites I read with everyone b*tching about 10.6 messing things up, loosing iTunes libraries, etc.

I guess this build of Flash was current when the whole SL project started,or at least the version that made it to GM. I think Flash just got updated a few months ago.

Regardless, I saw this elsewhere, and reading through the install thread I saw people asking about SL performance on YouTube and Hulu. Putting 2 and 2 together, if you are updating the OS, but downgrading Flash, I wouldn't expect much of an improvement in video streaming.

The article was focused on security, but so far this is not a big issue, just wanted to pass along the article and the video for others who might not have seen it.

More over, get Click to Flash for Safari, it allows you to load the videos in the quicktime plugin which is HUNDREDS of times lighter than flash. My mini9 views youtube "hd" videos with minimal load! With flash you can't even play them and the mini9 becomes as useful as a space heater. I haven't installed SL on my mini9 yet, but Click To Flash is really awesome with the new player, allowing you to view the videos in the player app separate from your browser!

EDIT: Oh yeah and remember kids.... FLASH SUCKS ;p
