Hi Vickh,

Firstly, I would recommend you to run the system diagnostics to determine any hardware failure or incompatibility. To the run the system diagnostics please follow the steps below:
  1. Restart the system and starting tapping the <F12> key once a second until the ‘One Time Boot’ menu appears (if the computer boots to Windows turn the computer off and try again).
  2. At the ‘One Time Boot’ menu, press the <Down> arrow key to highlight ‘Diagnostics’ and press enter
  3. The basic diagnostic tests will start, check for any error codes.

If the tests pass it indicates all the hardware are working fine. Next, I would recommend you to restart the system in safe mode. Please follow the steps to restart the system in safe mode.
  1. Restart the system and start tapping on the F8 key on the keyboard.
  2. On the Windows advanced options menu, use the arrow key on the keyboard to scroll down to the option safe mode and press enter.
  3. The system will start in safe mode.
Once the system restarts in safe mode, open the device manager and uninstall the video driver listed under 'display adapters'.

To open the device manager, click on start and type in device manager on the search bar.

Restart the system normally.

Once it is restarted, reinstall the video driver from the link below.

I know hardware is fine b/c I'm posting this from Win 8 on the same duo

Good to see an official dell rep here. What's the best way to call/ email to get a tracking# on my recovery media order already placed??

Hi Vickh,

If you have already placed the order for the reinstallation disks, please send me a private message with the system service tag and the order number so that I can help you out with the tracking details.

You can also check the order status from the link below.
Order Support | Dell

The Inspiron Duo is the same system type as Inspiron Mini 1090.

Please reply for any further questions.

Thanks and regards

Hi Vickh,

The re installation DVDs cannot be transferred into a bootable USB device, the only way to re install it would be using an external optical drive with the system.

Please reply for any further questions.

Thanks and regards
