Default Windows 8 Pro Install - 10-27-2012, 05:47 PM

Hi all,

Finished my install of Windows 8 Pro and everything is running beautifully!

Since I can't attach the updated drivers that you'll need I've provided information so that you can go and get them yourself.

You'll need the latest Atheros_AR3011 Bluetooth adapter driver, Broadcom Crystal HD Video Driver v3.6.9.32, ST Micro Rotation Sensor (http://www.samsung.com/global/windowspreview/data/4_ST_Micro_Rotation_Sensor_32bit.zip) and Intel NM10 Express Embedded Chipset Update.

I do have one question for the forum though. Which driver is used to enable the Brightness, Volume, Play & Pause buttons that are on the Function Keys?

Thanks for any help anyone can give,

Peacock

I believe it's the Dell Quickset driver. Here is the one Windws 7 Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]. Not sure if it will work on Windows 8 or if there is another one for Windows 8.

EDIT: Just found this, although it's for the Inspirson 5425. I wonder if it would be compatible? http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/...eId=3003628997

So is Windows 8 better on the Duo than Windows 7?

By a large margins!
Thanks for the help. Quickest is for switching battery performance but it may set the buttons also.

I find that my marine nav program that didn't work with the preview now works with the final release. Was thinking of keeping Win 7 in a dual boot but all my old programs work with Win 8 and the RT interface works well subject to the limitations of the DUO (limited multitouch and slow Atom processor) We need more apps but this is a real laptop solution and we still have a good browser that runs flash.

I think it does the buttons as well. When I did a clean install of Windows 7, I initially didn't install Quickset b/c I thought it was Dell bloatware, but the buttons wouldn't work until I installed it.

Hi.

Is your touch screen working fine on Windows 8 Pro?

I installed Windows 8 on mine but my touch screen is not working.

Try running Windows Update to see if it can find the drivers.

I've run every version of Windows 8 prior to the final release and never had a problem with the touch screen not working. Did you do a clean install? That would be selecting NOTHING when installing Windows 8.

only needed to update accelerometer and hd crystal driver.

nice speed improvement compared to win7. for only $15, win8pro is a nice rejuvenation for my duo. kudos.
