Id be happy to post numbers on speed of boot up ect but i will be installing a clean load on the SSD so may show a little more of a speed boost because of that. I think I'll be going for the OCZ Onyx 128GB SSD purely because of the very low power consumption of 1W active and 0.375W Idle. I don't mind that its a slower drive than others as it propably won't be the bottleneck in the duo.

Ok ive had a bad day.
I went ahead and bought the 128GB OCZ Onyx SSD
Firstly. I hadn't seen this mentioned anywhere before but the Hdd in the Duo is 2.5" but it is half the height of a standard drive. The SSD would fit in there without the caddy but once the plastic covers are back on it looks like it bulges the laptop out of shape. Has anyone else who has done the upgrade noticed this?
Secondly. Once i had fitte4d the drive and got it all back together the BIOS wouldn't pick up the SSD. After a lot of testing and messing around it turns out that the SSD was a dud so I have to RMA it.
I am a little reluctant to replace it though if it means bending the laptop out of shape.
Also this was the only place around that had the Onyx in stoack. (It has now sold out) and I believe it has been discontinued as it is an older model. Problem being that the main reason i chose this model is because of its very low poer consumption (1W Active 0.375W Idle) and none of the newer ones are that low.
Overall a very dissapointing day for me. Hopefully you guys have better experiences than I've had.

Weird about the half height drive! wonder if any others are thin drives to make this conversio easier...

From the images I saw it looks like the drive is sitting on a few foam pads.
Is it possible to trim them down to maybe make a little extra room?

No because if you trim those down then the SATA ports wouldn't line up with the drive. Has anyone that has done the upgrade noticed a bulge on the hdd side?

I just read a couple of articles that explain that Dell used a smaller, harder to find replacements for HDD in the Duo.
That being said, the drive looked like it went in okay in the video that was posted.

So, in the YouTube video (or maybe in the comments about the video on YouTube) it is mentioned that the Dell drive is mysteriously smaller. I used a Crucial SSD just like in the video. It is 3.5 inch but it does not bulge in the case. I got the 128 gig Crucial.

I talked to a Crucial tech and he said all 2.5 inch drives have a slightly different connector than the 3.5 inch drives so you cannot use a 2.5 inch drive. It appears that Dell got a special configuration manufactured.

Anyway, the Crucial 3.5 fits in mine with no bulging.

It looks like the Crucial C300 which have seen others use. It is 9.5mm thick where as the onyx is 9.3mm. So I am very suprised that nobody has mentioned the problem with bulging.

3.5 inch drives are desktop drives and 2.5" are standard laptops. Di you mean 2.5" and 1.8" respectively?

Im considering a 1.8" drive and that may give me a bit of room to put some other mods in there. like an internal flash module or gps unit.

I believe that it was the Crucial C300 in the vi which is 9.5mmthick and the OCZ onxy is 9.3mm. Im Suprised nobody else has has this problem. Its not majorly noticable unless you look for it but i am a bit of a perfectionist and this puts me off.
