Default different performance for differnt duo's... - 12-03-2012, 03:51 PM

alright, so i have an odd thing happening. i work at a college and i am previewing win8 pro on the duo's to make them more friendly for the staff (people before left the dell stuff stock and they run very slow)

so i've got 3 dell duo's right now i'm playing with (i've built 4)

2 of the dells score higher in the video on win8 then the other two...

now i know wei is mostly crap, but i can tell a huge difference. on the one that scores higher it can playback 1080p youtube, netflix, or any video streaming without fail, the ones that score lower stutter on anything in HD...i've installed all 4 the exact same, same drivers, same usb stick and win8...

any idea's here?

I just picked up a used Duo a few days ago. It was stock, running windows 7. Didn't want to mess with original hd. Had a 40gb Intel SSD laying around, so used that to install Windows 8 pro via usb stick. Followed most of tips in the install Win 8 thread except for synaptic drivers. Used stock Dell duo drivers. Could not get scrolling to work as I liked with latest from Synaptic site.
As to "wei" mine are 3.2, 4.6, 2.6, 3.0, 7.7
What are yours on your various Dou's?

Also regarding HD playback, if you could post some links to HD clips, I would like to test to see if mine is living up to it's capabilities.

my "fast" duo has a WEI of 3.2, 4.5, 3.2, 3.1, 5.9

my "slow" duo has a WEI of 3.2, 4.6, 2.5, 3.0, 5.9

two quick video streams, one is a metro app - The Daily Show app, it seems to stream in HD and the fast duo can stream it perfectly! the slow one stutters a lot!

also youtube video's at 1080p, try FreddieW or corridordigital for some fast content there...

beyond that, it seems that things are just snappier on the "fast" one, like no lag what so ever...

The graphics score has to be the difference. I have a MSI Wind U100 net with ssd, win7 and 2gigs ram, it does everything well except any hd video. Difference is Broadcom crystal hd decoder. It would be my best guess on why the difference in various Duos.Something in driver or its implementation would be my best guess.
On mine, driver date 5/31/2010, version 3.7.20.0 under crystal hd properties in device manager.
Would love to get mine up to your 3.2 !! Hope we can figure this out.
Tried the video feeds you suggested, and they play quite well on mine.

thats the weird thing, i've checked and all duo's come with the same broadcom chip on the motherboard (not a removable card)

i've even grabbed the latest drivers from broadcom and the ones from dell as well...

its almost like the fast one is just a better binned chip? i'm not sure, but we have the same driver date....i'll be trying something else tonight, just to make sure its using the new driver, as i'm not positive it got updated...
