Default Playback problems on my Mini 1012 - 08-07-2012, 01:44 PM

I have a Dell Mini 1012, which is now a couple of years old. It is running Windows 7 Starter.

My problem is that a couple of months ago for no reason the videos on my hard-drive started stuttering. MP3s are also stuttering, but recently video sound has also started dragging.

Any idea why this is happening and short of binning it what can be done? I really use it for my graphic work, but I also like to watch videos on it.

This also affects sound on Skype, and even the Windows start up tune.

Help?

its pretty common for Windows to slow down over time, a lot of people just tend to re-load Windows occasionally and that usually speeds the system back up again.....

PS. Welcome to the forum....

BTW: you really should think about upgrading to a more functional version of Windows 7 also, the starter edition is pretty limited or maybe just wait for Windows 8 to be released in the next few months, also if you only have 1gb of RAM, upgrading the system to 2gb RAM will certainly help too

I know this thread is old, but I'm experiencing the same issue, even on a fresh install. I once had an issue similar to this, but was solved by mucking about with IRQs and resources. Much to my dismay, I am unable to reallocate resources on ODM crap. Anyone have any information that would help me? I'm going to test to see if it's certain hardware.

For improved video performance I suggest two upgrades (1) 2GB RAM and (2) a Broadcom 70015 video encoder. The latter can be purchased on eBay for under $30.

It sounds like you have trojans on your machine. Download Spybot and run it. Don't forget to run the Spybot updates immediately after installation. Spybot is a freeware program.
