Ok I've got an issue here, a friend was on my dell mini 10v yesterday, on shutdown he installed updates, I ran nothing before hand so when I boot now, I get the grey kernal screen. If I Hold shift and type 'recovery=y' it just gives me the same grey screen, what do I do?

After a few tests, I can say sleep works fine.

A05. But I'm not thinking that's the problem. Also, USB legacy is disabled, Bluetooth on, wifi on, webcam on. Got some things that start up at start up, if you see what I mean, like ClamXav, Coolbook, Tigerlaunch, Salling Clicker, any of which could interfere, although I've tried turning them off... so shall start with basic 10.6.4 (or maybe 10.6.3 as that's where the prob started) installation and add things until it breaks. Unless of course it breaks at basic in which case I shall stay with 10.6.2
---------------------------------------
Actually, starting with 10.6.0 as that's the retail disk I have...

Well, it could be a coincidence, but mine is also A05, with the same settings as yours. And I don't think the problem lies with start-up items, as mine load in recovery mode without problem.

I did an interesting experiment : I deleted all the kexts I could find that were new in NBI 0.8.4 compared to 0.8.3. Got kernel panic at reboot, but recovery mode was still fine. I then re-added them one by one (running UpdateExtra of course) and tried rebooting after each new kext. The results : KP at reboot if CPUIDSymbols.kext is missing. However, when it is present, the mini boots but is stuck at blue screen before getting to the desktop. However recovery mode always boots without problem.

Meklort said there was a special set of kexts that are loaded in recovery mode. And I think we might have a culprit there ( at least in my case...). So is there a way we could use the recovery mode kexts to bypass CPUIDSymbols.kext ?

Can someone with a working 10.6.4 update on a mini 9 post their BIOS ? Just to check if it is related or if Spida505's and my mini are just jinxed ?

Edit : I've just checked previous posts and BIOS A05 is not an issue... Oh well...
