Default 10V Heat - 06-13-2009, 01:04 AM

Hi guys

Just wanted to hear people chime in if this is normal..

My 10V gets really hot at the bottom. The vga port is almost burning hot on the side. Is this normal? I did the ram install and what appeared to be the heat stickers/paste came off cleanly when I took the palm tray off so I dont think thats an issue. I haven't run into any adverse effect as far usability with the heat. Just would like to hear if this is normal.

Mine gets hot around that area also. I have the hyper-x ram also so that might be why mine gets hot. Also... are you talking about the thermal paste? because that is supposed to be on there.

Thanks for the response. Ya I think its the thermal paste, but it more like a thick gel sticker than actual paste.

Yep, it gets hot there. No fan, and minimal venting on the bottom. That's to be expected. Just be mindful.

No fan, convection cooling and since the GMA, Atom and 945 chipset are on the right side, you'll get some heat. Not to mention the DDR2 RAM module. All needs to get vented from the computer on the right side.

It's normal

I too experience the same heat problem coming from the bottom right side of my Mini 10v after my RAM upgrade. The laptop was relatively cool before the upgrade which makes me think the RAM upgrade caused the added heat. I've used Corsair 2GB 200-pin SODIMMs DDR2 667(PC2-5300 CL4) RAM for my upgrade. Do you think it had to do with the type or grand my RAM I've used?

Default 10v heat - 08-15-2009, 10:07 PM

I am getting the same heat issue. I just did the 2GB ram upgrade last night and it seems to be noticeably hotter since then.

I installed Crucial DDR2-800, CT25664AC800.

Mine gets hot also. Would the 6 cell battery help? More airflow.

I have the 6 cell battery and in normal situations I think it does provide more air flow, along with a bit of ergonomic angle. In the case of the ram that I used, I was running it today and it was getting so hot that the keyboard stopped functioning normally.

I think I'm going to have to go back to the RAM module it came with, or look into something with a heat spreader.

I have to say that Windows 7 runs very well even with 1gig though.

Mine has always been hot since day 1. I don't notice any more heat after the 2GB upgrade.
