Default mini doesnt have hibernation option! - 12-29-2008, 05:17 PM

i have the dell mini 9 1gb RAM 8gb HD with windows xp home pre-installed

ever since receiving the notebook 2 months ago, i dont recall it having a Hibernation option.

Currently the machine has 4gb free -plenty of temp/swap space for hibernation storage. i have checked the Power options to explicitly enable hibernation mode, reboot, and i dont see the hibernation option. BIOS was just updated and all settings are default from manufacture

Try this:

-Open a Command Prompt.
-At the command prompt, type powercfg.exe /hibernate on, and then press ENTER.

It's worth a try.

do you use the welcome screen? if you do, try pressing shift when you have the shutdown options open and see if it becomes available.

I don't know what the cause of your problem is, but under Windows, the hibernation file does not use swap or temp file space. My experience is shat the hibernation file is a permanent file called hiberfil.sys, located in the root directory of your main drive (there may be a way to relocate/rename it, but I don't know what that is) -- this file has a fixed size equal to the amount of RAM in your machine, plus a little more. If you enable viewing of system files in Explorer, you should be able to find it there.
