Hi! I did a clean install of Ubuntu 12.04 on my Dell Inspiron 910. I have had no luck getting sound from my speakers. I do have sound from my headphones.

deanette@deanette-Inspiron-910:~$ cat /proc/asound/card0/codec* | grep Codec
Codec: Realtek ALC268

I am new to this so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Did your speakers work OK when you tested 12.04 on your USB flash drive before installing? I found you on the Ubuntu forums, give them a chance to see your question as it sometimes takes a while. I leave my speakers on mute, but I am sure that you have checked for that already.

I did not test it before installing it. I had been running Ubuntu 11.10 but the upgrade never appeared in Update Manager, so I did a clean USB install of 12.04. Speakers had been working and think I checked everywhere to make sure my speakers weren't muted. I will try and be patient. Thank you!

Truthfully, I am not very patient. I would try to boot from your USB flash drive & see if your speakers work in the trial mode vs. install. You might even consider going back to 11.10. I don't plan on upgrading my OS from 10.04 as it has worked well.
