Default New ads? - 12-06-2010, 06:51 PM

What's with the new ads being inserted into the signature area of the first post of every thread, and the "featured products" listing between the first post and subsequent posts? It's incredibly annoying. I know there used to be ads inserted randomly if I wasn't logged in, but now I'm seeing them all the time.

Sad to say, but I'm going to lose interest in this site fast if they stick around. It wouldn't be so bad if they were along the sides or at the bottom, but the fact that they are in the middle is making it difficult to navigate through threads.

Edit: There's even one in the middle of my post now. The placement makes it seem like I posted a link to some random site. DISLIKE!!!!

I see no ads using Firefox and AdBlockPlus, but when I open in a different browser I can see what you describe. I would not care for that either. It used to be that registered users didn't see so many ads.

That makes sense. I use Firefox and AdBlockPlus at home, but at work I'm stuck with IE. That's probably why I haven't noticed them before.

Agreed, this is horrible.

Anyone else notice that the web layout is just a little too wide requiring you to scroll horizontally to read posts or see your PM notifications?

mine is just the opposite, it has shrunk where I have like 3 inches of white space on both sides of the forum....I spoke with Matt and he said he was playing around with some stuff last week and he said I might see it get larger again, but it hasnt, also I get the ads all over the place also and it is very annoying, and I am running FF with the built-in ad-blocker....I thought that they were someones links to another site also, until I edited them and realized they were not, now as a mod I can edit posts to look but the average user cannot, so I see what lauriem is talking about.....I think all of this has something to do with the new owners of the forum trying to get additional advertising revenue to help subsidize their recent investment

UPDATE: I just installed Adblock Plus for Firefox and it got rid of everything...I love it...thanks for the tip

You're probably right. I completely support the new owner's right to make money from advertising to support the site, but it would be nice if it weren't done in such an annoying way.

Just saying... :-P

Decisions made by the new owners. I would contact them via the contact form (link in footer) to express your concerns.

You will be glad to know that the new adverts are getting removed for logged in users. Which is a wise decision, and if anything, hopefully get more than 1/10 visitors to login and contribute.
