Arrow NetbookInstaller .8.4RC1 - 03-27-2010, 08:00 PM

NetbookBootMaker / NetbookInstaller .8.4 RC1 is now available and has been posted on the Google Code project page.
*WARNING* This version of NBI does not support versions of OSX older than Snow Leopard (10.6).

Please keep in mind that Release Candidates are still in development and are under a lot of testing. This release will add support and fix issues, but you should be aware that there is always a possibility for unexpected problems (always keep a backup handy, just in case! )
This version, like all non-final releases of NBI, has not been through any thorough testing and you may encounter bugs! Beware, this is under the development forums for a reason.

Installation Instructions :
  1. Restore OSX 10.6 DVD to USB drive
  2. Run NetbookBootMaker (this version) to patch the USB
  3. Make sure Legacy USB is enabled in BIOS (for booting from USB)
  4. Boot Mini (9 or 10v) to patched Install USB [note, if "pinwheel of death" appears... wait up to 10 minutes. if not, reboot to USB]
  5. Install OSX 10.6.x or upgrade from 10.5.x to 10.6
  6. Once the installation has completed remove your USB drive and reboot
  7. Enjoy OSX on your Mini!
[let me remind you that it is always a good idea to check/repair permissions after any OS upgrade. you can do this with Disk Utility or applications such as OnyX]

Upgrade Instructions :
  1. Download the NetbookInstaller .8.4RC1
  2. Run NBI .8.4RC1 using the options you prefer
  3. Reboot your Mini
Remember, with .8.4 releases NBI runs automatically when necessary (at least with OSX 10.6.1 - 10.6.3).

[for more detailed installation instructions for those who are not simply updating their current OSX installation... please see Mechdrew's site (link in my signature -- replacing any links to NetbookInstaller/NetbookBootMaker with the version you wish to use)]

This new version of NetbookInstaller includes the following changes:

See meklort's blog or the Google Code Project Page!!

**
Please see Meklort's Blog for further information and details!!**

Other Thoughts:

Remember to report any and all bugs you encounter to the Google Code bug tracker. This allows us to track issues with NetbookInstaller and keep up on fixing any bugs.

(It is extremely hard to remember bugs reported on the forums and is nearly impossible to keep up with all of the discussions. The forums are a great place to discuss problems and talk with other members about possible fixes, but you should always submit a bug report so that your issues are no overlooked)

Also, all discussions relating to .8.4RC1 belong in the Development section of the forums until further notice.

Finally, remember to support your developers for their hard work and time invested into the project

Enjoy!!

*WARNING*

As stated above, this is a pre-release / non-final version of NBI. Please use at your own risk and always ensure you have a backup. Nobody is responsible for problems during installation and upgrade except for you, the user. This version is in testing and under development!! (which is why it is in the dev forums) If you download and install this version please report bugs and problems to the bug tracker. There are known bugs that are being worked out, so do not expect everything to be perfect.

Just a note:
It looks like the Mini 10 (1012) has an issue with the power management changes. I'll be fixing this shortly, but for now, do not update if you are on the 1012.
EDIT:
It *should* be fixed now
EDIT 2: Scratch that, don't update if you are on the 1012. I'll try to get a proper fix out within a few days, until then you can use the 0.8.4 pre release)

Tried 0.8.4RC1 on my Mini 10v, everything works fine, and truth be told, sleep works fine even with USB legacy on... don't know why exactly...

Anyway, do you have any idea on when Chameleon v2.0RC4 will be included in a future NBI release? I'm basically waiting for the partition hiding thing, is there any problem with Chameleon new version and NBI??

Did this upgrade today. In my config, mini 9, built in mic doesn't function. The ALC268 fix works for the mic though.

mini 9 | 2GB RAM | 16GB STEC SDD | BIOS A06, USB Legacy OFF | No Bluetooth | OSX 10.6.7 | NBI 0.8.5pre w/ ALC268 | Broadcom2Airport
MINI Cooper '02 | 1.6L | CVT | Moonroof | Red w/ White Stripes

Want the ALC268 mini 9 sound fix? Get it here http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2377323/Mini9SoundPatch.zip

Up and running...thanks Meklort!!!

Looks like my DSDT battery issue is resolved

3/28...booted up the Mini...no audio
ran NBI 8.4 RC1 and rebooted...no audio
ran NBI 8.4 RC1 and rebooted again...audio back

Mini 10v (Black) - BIOS A06 - Mac OS X 10.6.0 - 1GB RAM - 320GB HDD (7200 rpm) - NBM via USB - NBI (ending with 51) - Legacy Off

Had a happy 10.6.6 machine and updated to 10.6.7, but no love...maybe I'll do a vanilla install...but probably not.

Akki, the microphone is not enabled in this build from what I can see. I wonder if meklort has any plans for this.

What are the requirements for this RC?
I was on 0.8.3 and tried to upgrade to 0.8.4 RC1.
I keep getting the version mismatch error, Hold down the power button warning..in 8 languages.

I'm not sure what I was doing wrong. Recovery works.
I'm in the process of rolling back to 0.8.3.

ROLLBACK seems to be successful.
So now...time to figure out how my setup is different.
I know for one I have done some command line hibernation/sleep tweaks.

I'm still having an issue with the first reboot after running NBI. It started with 0.8.4pre. This thread was started earlier by thejames as he had the same issue. It can't seem to find the right partition to boot from. I can get in via safe mode and re-run NBI again. When I do that it boots correctly but now I have no sound. Any ideas?

When NBI is run in safe mode, kextd refuses to add some kexts (such as audio) to the /Extra/Extensions.mkext file. Thats why you don't have sound.

I don't know why you machine can't find the root partition. A number of people have reported it, but I have yet to see it on my machine yet.
