![]() augh!
there's a reason that step #3 is before step #4. My problem is that i've now opened it up so many times i no longer look at the guide. so i popped the palmrest off, and prised the ribbon cable out from THAT end rather than the logicboard end. anyhow, i broke one of the retaining arms off the clip that keeps the ribbon cable on the trackpad. one of the arms is still there, and it's shoved in so it works. i may grab some tape so that it doesn't move much-- though the pressure from the cable is also preventing it from moving anyhow. let's see i have cracked it open to do the following: 1. added a 2gb stick 2. took it out because it was running very hot 3. replaced it with a different one 4. opened it up to make sure that the cpu had good enough contact with the thermal chewing gum 5-9. fiddled around with it because my keyboard wasn't reading keys on one half of the keyboard for a while. i did finally seat the ribbon cable successfully. 10. most recently, cracked it open to replace the 160 with a cheap 32gb SSD and unfortunately this tenth time was the unlucky one where i actually damaged a piece. So the moral is: pay attention, especially if you "know" what you are doing. mini review: SSD is good. it doesn't make the machine that much faster, but now i think it's somewhat cooler and it's now shockproof too. and silent(er). |

![]() Thanks....took under an hour to upgrade. One thing, you mentioned that all the screws are the same...not so. Same thread, different lengths.

![]() Just about to follow this excellent guide. But I will also change the coin battery for the BIOS at the same time - it is as awkward to change as the memory module!
