First, you need to decide what your need and budget is...SSD are pricey depending on the size, read and write speed, and manufacture. I would advise you to upgrade your ram to 2gb while your swapping the SSD. As for the OS, that depends if you own a Mac or not or have access. There are tons of osx guides to follow to put SL on your mini.

I personally used the NCD route to put osx on my mini since I have an external cd/DVD drive.

If you have access to any mac (a friend/family member's, your school/work) you can image the dvd to an 8gig thumb drive and run netbook installer on it. This seems to be the easiest way. When it comes SSDs the runcores seem to have become incredibly popular, if that's too expensive check ebay they are all over the place.

SSD: You need a bare minimum 8Gb SSD, and a 16Gb would be much better if you can afford it. The newer SuperTalents are probably the best from a quality/price ratio from what I've read. You can probably get a 8Gb STEC SSD off eBay for next to nothing but you'll have to hack the installer to make it fit.

OS: Buy a retail 10.6.X from Apple or a reseller. eBay will probably work here too, but make sure its a retail CD and not a grey restore disk.

For install method, I recommend an 8Gb USB stick. There are guides on here for how you prepare the install from OSX or Windows. Personally, I use NetbookBootMaker to setup the drive from another OSX hackintosh.

Runcores are Chinese, as is your whole mini for that matter, the Runcores are just of a very high quality.

I have a SuperTalent, bought it from Newegg when the mini 9's first came out, they have continually improved as they have released subsequent models.

Why buy the OS? Because it's the right thing to do, it's less than $30, and on this forum it is the way we work.

Why steal an OS, if you want a free OS install a version of Linux. I have, and I can tell you it is worth buying the Mac OS just from ease of installation and the fact that when you are finished, if you do it properly, everything that should work does.

My Runcore 16GB has just died and it`s only just 6 months old. It has now to be sent back to Runcore in China for repair. They are supposed to have an agency here in N. Zealand, which is why I bought it. I e-mailed the company they said, but they are not Runcore agents. Not good. It`s going to take forever.

Yes, even though it says Upgrade, it has a complete copy of SL on the disc.
