Default Battery not recognized, flashing orange light - 09-19-2014, 12:15 PM

Alright, so recently I got a Dell Mini 9. It works great, I installed Android x86 on it and it runs good. Anyway, when I received it, it had XP on it, and the battery wasn't recognized. The first time I booted it up, a BIOS message appeared saying the battery wasn't recognized and wouldn't charge. It's the stock battery. I haven't seen the message again.

Anyway, it still doesn't work with Android. I have tried flashing different BIOS revisions, and that resulted in a bad flash forcing me to do a crysis recovery, which worked.

Still no battery. Any help?

Thanks,
Lucas

This can happen with some non-Dell batteries. Sometimes pulling the battery and reinserting will clear it.

It's the stock battery, haven't tried different batteries.

I have read things like Airplane Mode, and have tried that with no luck.

Also tried something for depleted batteries, and I figured that might be it as the laptop hadn't been used for a few months. Also no luck.

I haven't seen the "battery not recognized, will not charge" message since it first popped up, so don't know what's going on there.

Should I just order a new battery and see if the current one is faulty?

Are you still seeing the flashing orange light? If so, it's not charging. At this point, original batteries are some 5-6 years old and the cells may well have failed.

I am still getting the flashing light, but something interesting happened. I left it to charge for about a day, and when I turned it on, it worked fine. Then I unplugged it, just for kicks, and it stayed on for probably 1 second and then turned off. Before this, it would just abruptly turn off when unplugged. What does this mean?

It means the cells in the battery are old but leaving it on the charger for a long time allowed them to revive. This is not unusual. But the cells are still in very poor condition.
