Default 100% Working Netbook Running Mountain Lion - 08-17-2012, 04:33 AM

Is there anything in the current netbook range late 2012 that will install 10.8 ML as easy as the Dell 10v at a sub-$500 price point ?

I've been googling for netbooks but only pulling up the HP 15" beast as relatively vanilla for 10.8. I want something portable with a long battery life and the HP does not hit the mark.

Me too,
my 10v could do with a new screen, more ram and a bigger battery but I don't want to throw money at something that will only run Snow Leopard.
I love the size of my 10v, it sits beside me at work next to my till and goes on holiday with me.

I am not aware of anything in the netbook price range. Mountain Lion has some pretty severe hardware restrictions. I have a Macbook that won't run it. There are some 11" and 13" Ultrabooks that might, but you'd probably have to check out sites dedicated to running OS X on non-Apple hardware for suggestions.

I can offer what *won't* work.

My Dell XPS 12 convertible tablet/laptop will not run Mountain Lion natively, so I have it installed as a VM in VirtualBox.

Maybe look at Laptops and ask in their forums?

Hate to say this as I have loved my Minis, but I bought a used 11" Macbook Air for $600 and am now happy with it instead.

Default 100% working replacement - 03-28-2013, 06:17 AM

I have just bought a replacement for my mini 10v
It is an Acer V5-171
It is slightly bigger at 11.5inch but nice and thin.
I had to swop out the WIFI card (£6) this meant losing Bluetooth as it's a dual card but my Bluetooth nano dongle works fine with it.
I'm running 10.8.3 sweet as a nut plus XP, Win8, Ubuntu 12.1, Mint 14 and OpenSuse 12.13.

I don't know what to add really.
The only thing that is slightly iffy is the trackpad. If you use the kext for it you gain gestures but it has an annoying habit when dragging and dropping of dropping if you stop moving. If you don't use the kext it works fine as just a mouse but for some reason won't work if you re-boot from Linux ??? using the kext, re-booting from Linux is fine.
You have to change the Wifi/Bluetooth module and I couldn't find a dual one to replace it with so I got a WiFi only one as my very small Bluetooth dongle works out of the box with OSX and I rarely use BT.
