I've searched and come across bits and pieces of answers, but wanted to see if I could get the latest and greatest thinking on this issue.

I screwed up my OSX 10.6.7 that was installed and working fine on my mini 9, but have a perfectly fine clone backup [CCC] on an external hard drive that I can restore from.

I am able to boot from the external drive and it runs fine. I have tried a few different ways of restoring from the external to the internal, but have not been able to get it quite right.

In this situation, what would be the best way to get my external drive clone back and working on the internal drive?

I've performed this very tast a number of times using Disk Utility running off the install OS X USB. On my 10v, that's always worked and the drive is immediately bootable. I have seen threads that suggest you'll have to run NBI on the drive after restore; if in your case it won't boot right off.

I have also performed this task running GParted from a linux live USB. If as you say your external drive is bootable, this should also work. My current distro of choice for this is Parted Magic. (in Parted Magic GParted is shown as 'Partition Editor.'

If you still have your Mac OS X install USB, you may want to check out this thread: http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/gene...-usb-hack.html

There you'll find info on how to run NBI...351 off your USB, and that may repair your SL install. (just another option)

Restore --> NBI --> Restart?

OR

Restore --> Restart --> NBI?

Well, like I said, I don't usually have to run NBI on the 10v after restoring.

I would try restore, restart; and run NBI only if needed.
