Hi, and welcome to the forum

To turn off the o2 "17p credit alerts", you'll want to turn of 3G data, do this by tapping the connectivity icons just to the left of the clock on the homescreen, scroll down and you will see "3G, Edge GPRS Networks, uncheck this and it will stop attempting to get to O2 for data. Be careful with PAYG with O2 - I managed to rinse ú15 of credit on data in less than 15minutes the data tariffs of PAYG are awful, and charge you per MB! You may want to consider a 30-day rolling contract.

20 Seconds to come of standby seems a bit long? I just tap the power button and it comes back straight away, are you powering it off completely?

I'm not sure about the videos, I'm pretty new to android myself - I just did a little research and apparently the formats are quite restricted due to lack of codecs, you could try converting them into a suitable format such as .3gp or .mp4 You can see the Android supported formats here. You also have options to stream, search for "stream" in the Android market.

Does anyone have any pictures of how they've set up their home screens - wallpapers and widgets etc? I'm so unimaginative and I'd love some ideas how to make it look awesome-er!
It's still too new for there to be much to refer to on the net!

That's really cool, much better than my layout! I shall have a bit of a shuffle. Also interesting to see what apps you've got - might check some of those out!

I got one yesterday from O2 website.

I was amazed at how thin this device is (a lot heavier with the battery fitted once you finally get the cover fixed in place)

Superb piece of kit! never seen my stacy keibler wallpaper look so good!
however, I'm really not keen on the hardware interface - i remember having one like it on a pda and it didn't last 5 minutes, especially with the use it will get on this device!

Anyway
My main reason for buying the phone was for wifi internet/GPS and playing movies...
phone for emergencies.
My question is does this phone play Divx/xvid files?
the manual says MP4/H.263/H.264/WMV player
I have loaded a variety of clips onto the sdcard but the ones it has found (not all) won't play?
it just says "Sorry, this video cannot be played."
also
The phone takes a while to come off standby - around 20 seconds
and the message
"O2, you need at least 17p credit to use network" etc etc etc
I had to press OK 9 times!

any help for a noob? any questions about the device i'll try to find out.
Personally I usually end up trancoding everything to mp4 using Handbrake on the Mac.

However, I've heard good things about "Rock Player" with avi, mkv, flv etc - you'll want the ARMv7 version for the Streak from the Market.

HTH
