I have a Dell Mini 1012 with 2gb memory, a recent OS upgrade from w7 64x to W10 64x has slowed the thing to a crawl and made it almost unusable. It's not my main PC and is only used if i need a computer away from home (not often).
So i was thinking of having another go at Ubuntu, tried Ubuntu before but never devoted enough time get the hang of it - i'm half expecting the free W10 to eventually have a sting in its free tail.
My question should i install 32 or 64 bit Ubuntu as the 1012 even with the extra memory wasn't great with windows 64x OS's
One more thing, will Ubuntu install all the necessary drivers

I would recommend 64-bit only because you may start to have problems finding 32-bit applications in the future. You don't get "extra memory".

thanks for the reply, i probably will go with the 64x and if it doesn't run so great can always try the 32x

I'm running Windows 10 x64 on my 1012. The biggest performance issue I ran into was Windows Defender constantly slowing the computer down, sometimes to near freezes. You need to edit the registry to actually turn off Windows Defender, because it only stays turned off in the Settings for a short period before it automatically turns back on.

After permanently disabling it, the performance was and still is excellent compared to any other OS I have tried. I have also tried Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, Remix OS (32-bit), and OSX. None have performed as well as Windows 10 after having Windows Defender turned off.

use 360 security for windows.

this is a good antivirus for low preformance laptops.

it barrily uses 300MB during a full scan
