I have three Dell Minis a Mini 1010, Mini 1012 and a Mini 1018.

My favourite is the 1012. It is the Deluxe model with the 1366x768 screen with the Broadcom Crystal video decoder installed as standard configuration. It also has the WIFI/Bluetooth combination card installed.

The 1012 has three usb ports compared to the 1018 which only has two. The 1018 also lacks the microphone port and has only one speaker as opposed to the 1012 which has two.

Under the hood (removing the keyboard) the 1012 has three PCI Express card slots (on the Deluxe models at least). The WLAN slot is occupied by the WIFI/Bluetooth combo card. Another slot is occupied by the Broadcom Crystal decoder card and the final PCI express slot reserved for the WWAN card.

Performance wise the 1018 has a very slight advantage over the 1012. This is offset by the increased video performance of the Broadcom Crystal video decoder card.

Both the 1012 and the 1018 can run 64 bit operating systems. I ran Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on both the 1012 and 1018 models and both were slow compared to 32 bit operating systems.

I recommend sticking to 32 bit systems on both the 1012 and the 1018 models.

If running Windows 7 or Windows 10, it is essential that the RAM be upgraded to 2GB.

My biggest gripe with the 1012 is the scratchpad. The 1018 was a major improvement on the 1010 and the 1012.

My final subject is the screen. The upgrade to a 1366x768 screen is definitely a sound investment if you plan to keep the 101(or 1018).

I hope this review is informative.
