Hello to everybody,


I want to share with you my experience with Dell mini 1018.


When I bought (about two years ago), when the first time I started it, I really dissapointed with its performance. Slow boot, slow log on etc. So about two weeks ago, I decided to upgrade it and so I did.


First of all, I replaced its hdd with a ssd drive and specifically with ssd Kingston V300 model, 120GB and secondly I replaced the old 1 GB Ram with a new one of 2GB. I bought the a Crucial So Dimm 2GB RAM, CL 9, 1.35V.
It's very important your memory chipset to be 1.35V and not 1.5V because it won't work.


Now the hole image of my mini changed completely. Fast boot, faster than before and now I feel very happy.

The two GB of ram makes a huge difference, especially with Win 7.

Same story here I almost got it for free and it was so slow and rubbish it was used only as a 3rd of fourth backup, I was about to trash the thing but before I did a little search to find what was available as of upgrades and saw the crucial RAM and SSD upgrade was quite cheap so I jumped in and purchased both.

Crucial 2gb RAM and 240gb SSD + Debian 7 (wheezy) and this thing isn't useless anymore I do a lot of on the go compiling with it and beside poor battery life (Atom 1.66 is supposedly low power but it's working so much to keep up with amd64 modern instructions) it is way more practical than my others 17" laptops especially in the train daily commute, Crucial saved a 1018 life !
