Default NEW 1012 IS AWESOME! One minor thing though... - 02-13-2010, 08:02 AM

So after much contemplation I got my Mini 1012 today. However, I'm a little confused by the trackpad, I thought it had multitouch gestures. I bought the lower version, so I'm guessing maybe I needed an upgraded model for the multitouch?!?!?!

Thanks in advance guys!

Dunno. I expect they all use the same touchpad.

I think that the touchpads all work the same, your issue may be more related to drivers than the actual touchpad..

also you fail to say which OS are you using?

The touchpad is the exact same as on the 10v. It's a Synaptics touchpad with firmware version 7.4. It support detection of three fingers, however it will not tell you where they all are, only where one is (in other words, it's not really multitouch).

In windows, you can enable two finger scrolling with the Synaptics driver, instead of with dell's.

I just upgraded my Windows 7 starter of mini1012 to Windows Home Premium and still experiencing jumping cursor. Especially, when i touch the click button(left button). I have the very latest synaptics touchpad 14.0.14... I don't know if i would downgrade or not...

I am also getting alot of cursor jumping all around using Win7 Home Premium and the latest Win7 Touchpad driver from Dell. Is there a better driver or software than the one on the Dell site? If so, please let me know. Thanks!

There is a driver you can download to enable multitouch options, as well as mostly fix the cursor jumping on the 1012...

What Limowreak posted is true. These drivers rock on the 1012. Now I only scroll using 2 fingers ( my MIDDLE finger and RING finger are perfect ) anywhere on the touch pad, up/down left/right. I was having trouble using the edge of the touch pad to scroll.___

I had to turn ON my synaptics driver software to enable 2 finger support and turn the sensitivity all the way down. AND turn down the WINDOWS scroll settings to 1 page at a time. Now it's very predictable and I'm very use to it now.

It would be cool if it could pinch to zoom and such but it can't. Im winxp btw, but i doubt Win7 would change that.

Thanks for reminding me about this. I haven't installed it yet. I'm trying to identify a problem and don't want to add anything new till I figure it out.
