Default is it possible to disconnect just the web cam - 12-12-2012, 11:47 PM

Hi all,

I'm having an issue with a dodgy connection on the webcam, and keep getting the usb connect/disconnect sound at random intervals.

I am not bothered about having the web cam working so was hoping that it has its own connection on the motherboard that I can just disconnect.
I have a feeling that it is integrated into the screens cable which would mean that it can't be disconnected.
But if anyone is any the wiser id be glad to hear it.

Thanks
Doug

Hi dougyb83,

It seems from your post that the webcam is faulty. However, if the system warranty has expired and you do not use the webcam and just want a workaround to avoid the sound, you can disable the webcam from the device manager.

Steps to disable the webcam driver:
1. Click on Start
2. Right click on Computer and click on properties.
3. Click on Device Manager.
4. Look for the webcam driver under Imaging devices.
5. Right click on the webcam driver and click on disable.

If you want to resolve the issue. Please click on the link below to diagnose the camera.
Choose the diagnostic type as component;select "Camera" from the listed components and click on Run Diagnostics.

Hope this helps. Please reply for any further issues.

Thanks and regards

The webcam is a separate board (also includes the microphone) and can be unplugged from the mainboard. If you go to the Dell Mini 9 documentation site and look at the service manual, it will tell you how. Simply disconnecting the connector from the mainboard is pretty easy.

But do try Abhishek's suggestion first as it may be all you need.

this didn't solve it unfortunately. whenever the screen is moved even very slightly it disconnects/connects.

I also tried the dell diagnostics but the exe it downloaded would not run.

I think disconnecting is probably the best route

Hi dougyb83,

You can try to disconnect the webcam by checking the manuals as suggested by Holmes4. You can either go to the link below and enter the service tag to get the manual for your system or send me the system model so that I can help you with the direct link.
