Default Core i7 upgrade possible? - 12-20-2012, 04:21 PM

I've just come across a mobile Core i7 with the same PGA 989 socket that the Core i3 in my Mini 11 has. I'm wondering about the possibilities of an upgrade. Anyone have any ideas? I don't really feel like frying the MB trying it to see if it works.

Is there an actual socket? Nearly all mobile CPUs are soldered to the mainboard. You'd need to identify the chipset used in your laptop and then look to see if the specific CPU you want is supported. It is not enough to say "Core i7" or "Core i3". Even then, the BIOS may not support it.

Notebooks rarely have upgradeable CPUs.
