Default Mini 10v Win7 starter image issues - 07-12-2010, 08:26 PM

Preface - I bought a mini 1012 with Win 7 Starter and upgrded it to Win 7 home premimum immediatly. However prior to the upgrade I used the Dell datasafe to create a restore image on a 8Gb thumb drive.

I got my Mini 10v(refurbed) today and slipped a brand new WD 160Gb Caviar black into it and booted from the thumb drive and installed the original Windows 7 starter image from my 1012. However when I turn the computer on it starts to load windows then I get a screen that flashes(looks like text) and it repoots and starts from the dell screen starts to load windows and repeats?

Does anyone know why this is happening? I would prefer windows 7 starter on this machine but cant buy buy it and dont want to pop for another windows 7 upgrade

So wait, I'm confused. You got the unit with Windows 7 Starter, took an image, upgraded OS and HD, and now want to revert back to Starter?
Do you plan on swapping drives or anything to bounce back and forth?
I've never used this Dell util, but if it's a bad image, which it sounds like, you'll have to reinstall.
Seems like a waste of a key if you prefer Starter.

I bought a mini 1012 with Win 7 starter and upgraded to Win 7 home premium.

I bought a mini 10v with XP and wanted to use the 7 starter image from the 1012 to install Win 7 starter

1st of all why starter?, you upgraded the other machine to Home Premium why not do the same here, also dont do have the original Dell OS disks?.they should work to..sounds to me like you are trying something thats either not right or legal..and the disk that you created is no good as I said before.,.you did something wrong when you created it

Plus that is improper use of the Windows license, when you "upgrade" the Starter that doesn't mean you can install the Starter on another machine. The Starter license is what qualified you for the discounted upgrade.

Figured I would bite the bullet so I ordered Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit 1-Pack for System Builders - OEM from Newegg and a Seagate Momentus XT 250Gb Hybrid drive from Amazon to make this thing really scream Already installed the 2Gb of Patriot Ram
