Default Easiest 10v Trackpad mod that makes it totally ROCK! - 12-14-2009, 12:37 PM

Today, it seems I'm showing off my photography skills

I just thought this one up, and BOY does it work great !!

You know, even with the latest trackpad drivers, I do get a bit irritated sometimes, dragging files, closing windows, expecially trying to open tabs in new windows, right clicking on links... it can be so frustrating....

Well, slow day at the office made me come up with this trick! I just did a 3 layer cover of the trackpad buttons, reducing heat (or whatever) sensitivity to it, thus making it almost static to touch ! It's great !! I can tap in place, have MUCH more 1 finger control movement, right clicking is in place and does not run off... man am I happy

2 finger scroll still works (where one is on button and the other free)

Even 1 finger press and scroll works!

I did 3 layers, a bit sloppy around the edges, but for test purposes I'm convinved!

That looks pretty cool. I think I might even do something like that...

What did you use for the layers?

What product did you use to cover the trackpad/buttons?

tchariya, you have a very undergound version of SL, where did you find that one !?! (just kiddin' ya)
And where did you get the 9-cell battery? How long does it last you? Price? (thanks)

Look in the picture... seek an ye shall find ...

Some printer ready mail sticky label thingies... haven┬┤t got a clue what they're called.

The difference is almost night and day !! there is just a little bit of trackpad touch-sensitivity to makes all the difference in the world. Mind you, 3 layers, not just one!

I can just let my left finger there touching the edge while right hand scrolling up and down... but the main thing is right clicking, I'm thinking of completely covering it with something platic to cut the "finger-sensing" all together.

My first reaction to the NEW trackpad in RC4 was "damn... gotta take my mouse to conserve my sanity"

No need for a mouse now !!

It would be pretty cool if the driver could be configured to ignore movement in the corner button area. I think it works pretty good, but that would be a cool mod. Then you won't need to put stickers on the pad.

I know its not the "artiest" of solutions, but I gave it a go and the trackpad has become much MUCH nicer!

Suggestions are welcome! I have black isolating electrician's tape around, but from my audio cable experiences, the glue turns to putty with time and heat, and will leave marks and goo on it.

Duct tape seems a little extreme and bulky.

I think I'm going to cover the buttons completely (no sensing) as I am swiping, dragging and dropping and highlighting with spot-on accuracy, leaving the rest of the area free for multitouch. The paper sticker seems to grab on well, I made the last layer a bit wider to cover the one's underneath, so the edges dont curl up with use.

What can I say, I'm loving it

If anyone has any suggestion... ?

I am testing with the black isolating tape and I'm loving it even better! Tested the glue with alcohol and cleans it right off ! But I found a "workaround" so the tape never curls up.

It super super great! (pics soon)
