Default Did anybody try OSX 10.6.8 ? - 06-25-2011, 04:00 PM

I've read about problems on older Macbooks - boot problems and so on - and I'm not sure to try it on my trusted Mini 9. Any experiences to share?

Tried it the other day and got the constant reboot cycle that others are reporting. Fortunately, I made a clone of the drive before trying to update, so restore back was quick and easy.

Guessing from the following thread, we won't be seeing any fixes, so 10.6.7 is it for Mini 9.

Sleep: Working | Speakers: Working | Headphone Jack: Working

Me too, tried it and got the same thing. But I also got the same reboot cycling with 10.6.7, so I am not a good example.

Out of interest, did anyone with Mini-9 got the same reboot cycling after installing 10.6.7, and does anyone know how to fix that one?

Default Dell mini 9 with 10.6.7 reboot issues - 06-27-2011, 03:07 AM

I managed to get 10.6.3 installed on my dell mini using the NBI special and since I used the USB installation method, after updating to 10.6.7 i had to boot into the mini using the usb then re-install the NBI special. All is groovy and humming along great with no issues. Everything works.

Finally got 10.6.7 installed. My DM9 did not like me updating from 10.6.3 directly to 10.6.7 for some reason (I think I got the gray power off screen). Going to x.6 then x.7 solved the problem.

Going to try x.7 to x.8 later. But I did try to go from x.3 to x.8 and got the same reboot cycle. So I am not too hopeful.

Default 10.6.8 update on DM9 - 06-27-2011, 05:37 PM

I tried the .7 to .8 and the NBI special did not work even if I used the USB to boot into .8 and reinstall the NBI special it still would not boot into OSX on its own. So I tried the NBI pre5 and that didnt fix the issue either. So I gave up and went back to .7.

FYI:

Well, tried Software Update and variations of the following posted on the Mini 10 sub-board (basically similar to my usual process for rev-roll updates). No luck, still getting the reboot infinite loop.

Re-imaging .7 clone back to SSD and tossing in the towel.

Default Temp fix - 06-29-2011, 04:57 AM

Last night I was super smart and just ran the 10.6.8 on my dell 9.

Got the reboot over and over and over and over.

I was about to reinstall the os, but then I tried a few tricks I picked up.

I tried a safe boot over and over and over. Using the -x no luck.

I then ignored kext cache using -f .....BAM into my user running 10.6.8

Everything looks okay, but going to play around for a little.

I hope this helps people that are stuck.

I was able to boot using the newly patched mach_kernel from nawcom.com

But couldn't get sleep to work. It crashed as soon as it enter into sleep mode.

Default FAIL: NBI 0.8.5pre, 10.6.7 > 10.6.8 via software update - 07-01-2011, 12:57 PM

I tried to go 10.6.7 => 10.6.8 via software update on this install.

Reboot: about 2/3 screen repeats "systemShutdown false", then continues until Finder and login items are running, but Trackpad and Keyboard unresponsive. Cursor also not moving when it should via Teleport.

Copied back the clone of 1.6.7 I prepared immediately before trying 10.6.8 and set 10.6.8 to "ignored update".

If you try .8, prepare a bootable clone first!
