Default Installing XP Pro on 1012 - 08-28-2010, 08:40 PM

I am trying to install XP Pro on a 2012 and it keeps telling me that it cannot find the HD but it is not a hardware problem. The machine boots fine. I have tried several different versions of the install - SP1, Sp2, SP3; nothing works.

Has anyone experienced this? If so, how can I get this to work?

how are you trying to install it?, off a external CD/DVD or a USB thumb drive?, also have you enabled "Legacy USB" in the BIOS and also if its a USB thumb drive that you are using are you sure that its bootable?, did you try it on another system?

PS. Welcome to the forum..

also you have a "1012" not a "2012"

2012 is the end of the world

Anyway, you've got to give more information on the problem, otherwise it's difficult to provide any help.

When you say "it cannot find the HD", do you mean the hard disk?

Yes, HD means Hard Drive, here, there and everywhere....infrequently maybe High Definition, but not in this case

I believe the XP installer doesn't normally support SATA drives. Search for "xp sata slipstream" for more info.

In the Bios settings, change the HDD mode from AHCI to IDE. May solve the problem.
