Default Upgrade from 1 to 2 Gig - 03-23-2011, 12:54 PM

I have an Inspiron Mini 10 (1012) with a 250 Gig hard drive. The system performs poorly and I was wondering if I should upgrade the RAM from 1 to 2 Gig. I'm pretty sure I can with this model. The system thrashes quite a bit and I see a lot of hard drive activity. It's running Windows 7 and I've done just about everything I can to uninstall all unnecessary applications however it's still performing poorly. The system is used almost entirely for web browsing. The processor as Dell reports it is N450, 1.66, 512, PNV, 1012 if that helps.

I've been tempted to get rid of the system because of its performance but I figure I must be missing something if the Minis have such a strong following out here.

Thanks.

An upgrade to 2GB of RAM may well help, since Win7 will cache frequently used files in RAM.

An upgrade to 2GB of RAM can't hurt. But I find the main bottleneck when web browsing is the slow CPU, so I use ad/Flash/script-blockers to reduce the CPU load.

You can also try using the "mobile" version of websites (usually found by substituting "m." for "www."). You lose functionality, but speed improves tremendously, even on a fast desktop computer.

i have the Mini 10v and i upgraded my RAM to 2gb and i'm able to do some light video editing with Sony Vegas. i'm impressed with what this little laptop is capable of! so i think a RAM upgrade is well worth the $35 i paid.

I would also say that updating to 2GB of RAM will also help with your mini because I had 1 GB of RAM in my Dell mini 9 that,s running ubuntu and it was going really slow until I upgraded the RAM.
