Default 720p Playback with Broadcom HD Decoder Question - 03-07-2011, 08:11 PM

Hello Everyone,

I tried to play some anime .mkv files that are 720p but im getting a lot of artifacts on playback.

So my question is, are 720p playback just a dream even with the broadcom? or is something not right with my setting/system? I appreciate the feedback. Thanks.

System: 1012 n450 with Broadcom HD decoder, WMP 12, 2gb Ram, 1366x768, Latest Broadcom Drivers and Adobe Flash drivers.

Try an "official" MP4, like a movie trailer. Does it work better? How about 1080p?

If I recall correctly, the Broadcom decoder doesn't like h.264/AVC with alot of reference frames, which your files might have.

Whoa! I just noticed this is your first post since joining... nearly two years ago.

Use KMPlayer. You can set it up to force use the Broadcom codec and the 720p and 1080p will be reality.

@kiki,

Thanks, the kmplayer really helped a lot. Set the broadcom as the video decoder and all of the artifacting is gone. but still remains are flickers at high fps, is this to be expected?

Isn't it caused by the interlace?
If you watch interlaced video on a progressive display that will be flickered.
If it is the source of the problem, try to use comb filter or deinterlace filter.
