My install went great also (screen rotation is not working but I will look into it later as it is not a feature I use often).
It was the most painless upgrade I ever made on a computer.
Blue tooth mouse worked straight up with no driver update.

Win 8 is a device changer on the duo...it is literally like buying a new device.
The finger friendly tiles are a joy to work with, IE10 is silk smooth (I am actually abandonning chrome for IE10!!!, never thought I would say that).

The duo gains a true 'tablet' status with win 8 and bonus I still have a full featured windows device and full keyboard.

Really pleased, kudos to microsoft on this one (and dell for being ahead of its time with the duo).

I encourage anyone with a duo to go to win8, you get a new device for a very cheap price.

Some people wrote that Touch worked and other said it did not. I am trying to see what's the difference between these, so can everyone answer the following?

1. Is this Win8 the FINAL release to consumer - or - an RTM/Preview ?
2. 32bit - or - 64bit ?
3. Updade - or - Reinstall ?

Ive also ran windows 8 with much success since the early preview. Though I recently tried to upgrade to an Intel 520 120gb SSD with Win 8 pro and was plagued with errors. I'm hoping that it was just the drives power management issues.

Has anyone in this bunch of Win 8 adopters have an SSD installed and if so what model and any problems to be aware of?

The problem may be for those who bought Win 8 for another device? A generic Win 8 DVD from MS should work.

During Install the Touch screen worked immediately

I updated the drivers as per this original post and installed Win 8. But my Duo keeps coming up with the message 'memory too low...'

Anyone had the same symptom?

I ran DPC Latency and it is on 10000ps - with nothing running.

I installed a Samsung 128 GB SSD last summer (SAMSUNG 830 Series MZ-7PC128B/WW 2.5"). Newegg runs it on special from time to time. This drive is a true drop-in for the Duo since it's one of the thinner SSD drives. It fit perfectly into the bracket.

Performance wise, I have had no issues at all and it seems noticeably quicker than the stock drive with the added benefit of a very short boot up time.

With an SSD and Windows 8 Pro, the Duo becomes a whole new computer. It's far more responsive and smooth. I'm really impressed with it.

Windows 8 Pro is the way to go on the Inspiron Duo. I installed it onto a Samsung 830 SSD and it works beautifully. Make sure you install the Intel NM10 Chipset Drivers (just search NM10 on the Intel Download Center) and the latest Intel AHCI drivers from Intel http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...+ahci&lang=eng. Also synaptics.com has the latest touchpad drivers as well.

Thanks everyone for their input and tips. Really helped me upgrade mine to win 8.

I find I didn't need to install INtel AHCI drivers and using MS SATA drivers works ok (7.7 for hard drive in WEI still?). Like Daniel said h**p://***.synaptics.com/resources/drivers 16.2.21 works great with Windows 8 edge gesture thingy support.

Threw in an older OCZ Vertex 2 120GB (caddy doesn't seem to fit) SSD in there and it's working great. Very fluid and snappy.

One note though, I tried for the longest time to install via USB drive (direct download from MS), both the 64 and x86 versions, and got stuck. The install process gets an error at the drive choosing stage, the dreaded "we couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one" error. Tried for the longest time doing formatting in cmd etc and no go.. long story short, doesn't look like the DD likes USB installs (two other comps fine with the same thumb drives). Worked without issue with external drive and a Win 8 disk after. (a side note, if your external DVD drive is old and slow like mine and after hitting F12, your DVD still hasn't been read yet so that you can choose "CD/DVD external drive" from the boot menu, try going into diagnostics first instead after pushing F12. Keep hitting ESC when it's going through the hardware test to skip everything, but by the time you get out, the disk will be ready for booting off... hmm this is kinda a long side note)

Strange. I had no issues doing a USB install of Windows 8 Pro x86.

I did have that problem installing on a Latitude E4310, installing x64. It turned out that to use UEFI you had to boot the media from UEFI which meant converting from NTFS on the USB stick to FAT32.
