Default Dell Insprion 11z (1110) Memory Problem - 04-27-2012, 01:30 AM

Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 11z (1110) laptop which has been downgraded to Windows XP Pro SP3 as I don't like Windows Vista or Windows 7. I have recently upgraded the stock memory with 4GB PC2-6400 800MHz DDR2 SO-DIMM. The problem I am having is that Windows only recognises 2.90GB of RAM. Is there any solution available to get Windows to recognise the full 4GB? Any help would be greatfully appreciated.

You need a 64-bit OS - you can get 64-bit versions of Windows XP but I really think Windows 7 is the best choice.

Hi, Just an update to my situation. I have now installed Ubuntu 11.04 x64 on my Dell 11z and has now fixed my memory problem. Ubuntu says that I have 3.8 GiB of RAM which is 4 GB of RAM.

FYI, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS is running well on my 1121 w/4GB of RAM. 3.7GB reported in the system resource monitor. So if you want to go beyond 11.04 on your 1110 you should be able to. This is also the 32-bit install too. Don't know why Windows 32-bit can't access beyond 3GB but Ubuntu's 32-bit Debian base can seem to grab it all.
