Added an SSD - fast and quiet! -

Now that SSDs are getting cheaper, I finally took the leap and replaced harddrive in my 11z (1121). Now it boots from OFF to Login screen in ~10sec. After I log in, it's maybe 2sec before Win7 is ready to go. Also, the 11z is very quiet now. So far, not only is the drive silent, but the fan seems to come on less b/c the SSD runs cooler.

Crucial 64GB m4 2.5-inch SATA 6GB/s Internal SSD Drive from staples.com
With many deals on SSD, they are getting much closer to sub-$1/gig prices (I paid $70ish for a 64gig. BTW, Win7 Pro + a few small apps took up about 25gig. With cloud storage and since I'm not a gamer, having a 64gig ssd is just fine. |

wow. Good deal on the drive, but a 64 would never do for me. I'm currently using 80 gigs of my 250 gig drive, but I often get it up to the 85-90% full range.
Guess I'll have to wait till Christmas for them to get down to reasonable prices in the size I want. |
