Default Looking for TV tuner driver and application... - 03-13-2011, 04:54 PM

Long story short, I re-installed Win 7 on my Dell mini 1012 to get rid of all the crapware that Dell puts on it at the factory.

Unfortunately I can't find the drivers for the built in TV tuner on Dell's website (I am pretty sure they aren't there) or the application they provide to use it.

I dual boot with Ubuntu and having it working in Linux... The tuner is manufactured by Hauppauge and I am sure I could use their software for playing back TV, but I just am not exactly sure which driver's to use in Windows.

I am waiting for my third phone call back from Dell's horrible Indian tech support. How hard is it really to provide driver's for the included hardware? And I am not very happy that the end user has no other choice but to reinstall the OS to get the crapware off...

Blah.

They didn't send you the drivers disc originally? I had that problem when buying from the outlet, NO OS disc and NO Drivers disc, I called and used tech support chat to get them sent out. Hang in there DisplacedTexan, you will get them.

Welcome to the board!

displacedtexan, I have this problem too. I reinstalled Windows 7 on my Mini 1012 to get rid of all of Dell's bloatware and ended up missing the Dell Digital TV application.

The drivers are available on Dell's support website, or you can go to the Hauppauge support site and download the drivers for the Nova-TD USB2 (which is especially useful if you've installed 64-bit windows and are now discovering Dell has no driver support for you, just wait until you have to find a driver for the Atheros chip on the wifi card.)

You can download a copy of WinTV 7 from Dell's support website, but it's not the same as the TV application that originally came installed on the computer. I really wish I could figure out where to download the Dell Digital TV application that came with this computer - it was simple and I just liked the interface better for this computer. I read some clues during my searches that have given me the impression that it is made by CyberLink, and that the executable might be called tvenhance.exe, but I haven't turned anything up yet.

If you install Home Premium or higher you can use Windows Media Center to watch the TV, but WMC is a tad overkill for this machine and even with the CrystalHD decoder installed the machine bogs down when you try to do the guide or anything and I doubt anybody wants to upgrade from Windows 7 Starter just to watch the TV.

I haven't had any luck getting third party media players to work with the TV tuner. Media Player Classic, The KMPlayer, or VLC have rudimentary support for some tuner cards but I haven't gotten any to work with this.

I find this all incredibly frustrating. I don't want to use this machine as a PVR and I don't even care if I have buffering for live tv. I just want a simple lightweight TV tuner app for watching tv. The Dell Digital TV app seemed to fit the bill and I just want that back.

This is the Link for All the Apps and the Drivers....you people are looking for it in the wrong place thats why you cant find it......

link:
Drivers & Downloads

PS. Its Under Video for the 1010 and under Windows XP......it should work for the 1012 also and I know for a fact it works for Windows 7 because I am using it...you do not need the app or the drivers for DVBT unless you are in Europe..I believe the ATSC is the only one that works in the US..at least I never got the others to work

BTW: dont you have the original Dell Apps DVD/CD?....its on there too

Depends, do you have a trick up your sleeve to lie to the installer about the model number of the machine? The installer insists that it be installed on the 1010 only.

I don't know if they released multiple versions of those discs that come with the machine, but I've been round and round with this thing and the only application provided is WinTV7.

edit: Nevermind, looks like I figured it out. Open up Custom.ini and change CLSCAN=Inspiron 1010 to CLSCAN=Inspiron 1012. What an ordeal.

Thank you for posting that solution!!! I downloaded the previous mentioned software on my new dell mini I got today and it didn't have the dell digital tv software. I got the same 1010 error!

Thanks to this solution the software is installing now! woot! I don't know why a mini from directly from dell didn't have this already installed.... I won't complain too much because it doesn't appear to have any other bloatware installed on it either...

the reason it didnt have it before is because the TV Tuner is a pretty rare thing in these machines....MOST DO NOT have it
