Hi, I have a question about how NBI gets around the issue of our mini 9's CPU being unsupported in the mach-kernals since 10.6.3. When I updated to 10.6.3 I manually replaced the mach_kernal, since then I've NBI to it for me. BTW thanks for your work on this, it works great! The reason I'm asking has to do with my Mac Pro not being able to use my Radeon 4890 (flashed PC version) video card since the 10.6.5 update. I tried manually replacing the 10.6.5 mach_kernal with the 10.6.4 mach_kernal but I got a KP. How does NBI get away with replacing the mach_kernal? I'd really like to get my 4890 working again.
Hi Meklort,
One other quick question,
How do I install your lidkexts that you posted back in May on your blog? Do I even need them with your latest NBI?
Thanks again,
James
Hello Meklort,
I have been a long-time user of your Hackintosh utilities. Thanks so much.
I currently have a Dell Mini9 running OSX 10.6.4 with everything seemingly working OK.
I have always run the Bluetooth terminal hack changing out prod. i.d. and vendor i.d. numbers, then run update, etc., reboot, ever since OSX 10.5.7 through 10.6.3 thus allowing me to turn off Bluetooth from within OSX. HOWEVER, this trick will not work with 10.6.4 !! I get a Kernel Panic on restart which is so severe that I can't even rescue things with the "rescue=y" trick. Did you already know this, and do think it can be fixed? Obviously not a crucial item, it would just be nice to be able to turn off Bluetooth from within the OS instead of having to go through the BIOS of the machine?
Thanks for any illumination you might have, and for all of your hard work as well.
Best wishes,
James
In the 10.6.3 update thread you mention the following
'boot with "recovery=y" to get into OS X if it kernel panicked.'
Hello,
How exactly do I do this? is there a specific keystroke combo?
I am running xp and osx as a dual boot and get the kernel panic error. running recovery would hopefully get me back in, I would hate to re-install the whole OS.
Hi Meklort,I have a mini 10v and I've just updated to .6.3. After backing up my hdd, using SuperDuper! I discovered that the backup will not boot.
I want to run NetbookBootMaker on my USB external backup but I have downloaded NBM.8.4RC1 a couple of times and while it installs ok, it does not see USB volumes or the system hard drive. This is new with .8.4RC1 after updating to 6.3.The latest NBI.8.4RC1 sees the volumes ok.
Any thoughts appreciated, and huge thanks for your efforts in making all this doable for noobs like me.
Pete
Edit: Disregard the above, a bios setting was my problem. Still cant see USB devices in NBM but not a worry at the moment. Hope your exams went well and have a great summer break.
Sorry to bother you meklort, i know you're busy, especially with the new 10.6.3 release, but i was wondering if you could help me?
I tried to update last night:
I repaired permissions, then restarted
I installed .8.4RC1, then restarted
Ran Update via Software update
I let the software upgrade, and that went fine. It got to the NBI logo (mini9 with osx on screen), so I figured I would give it time to do its thing (as has been mentioned here numerous times), so I went to sleep with it running. I wake up and its still on the NBI screen with the circular logo still winding.
I know we were warned it would take awhile, but 8 hours seemed a bit too long. So, I held down the power button and restarted. Now it just sits at the same NBI screen. Is there anything I can do? Is this the kernel panic everyone is talking about?
I just want you to know that every single time I come to this website I have this fear in the back of my head that I'll read some post that goes something like: "Meklort gets hired by Apple as OS X developer," which would make perfect sense; it'd basically shut down a large part of the Hackintosh community while ensuring that a genius such as yourself was devoted to their side.
In short, you are the one man Apple Software Division outside of the actual Apple Software Division. I don't know what you do for a living or what relationships you carry on while making OS X play nice with our netbooks, but hey, if you're happy, I'm happy. Keep it up, and thanks!
