Default Install Windows XP Dell Mini 9 - 06-08-2009, 03:05 AM

I have a Dell Mini 9 with 64 GB hard drive and 2 gb memory. It came with Ubuntu and I have an external CD and have tried to install Windows xp pro sp1 from the CD and I get a blue screen. So I created a usb pen drive with Windows xp pro and I was able to format the drive and when it get coping the files to copy it come up with message it cannot copy the files. Does anyone have any suggestion how I can get Windows XP install on my Mini.

Are you sure the external drive is good? Loading XP from a pen drive is tricky and requires use of some third party software. I'd try the CD again if you got the drive formatted.

Good Luck!

I'm guessing you getting the "trying to copy files from CdROM0" error, I think the first file that normally fails is called "asms". I've reinstalled windows xp on my mini many times and had this happen 4/5 times easily.

To get around it, replace the "CDRom0" with "D:\" in the path that comes up, you'll have to do this many times until the end.

That's if it's even the problem!

yes I have 8gb on my mini and installed the full version of xp home. I have about 3gb of space remaining after installing the dell drivers and software. Remove what isn't necessary....there are quite a few topics of files/folders you can delete to give yourself some space.

Default XP question - 09-15-2010, 02:02 PM

I have the original mini with XP home on it, I also have a 1525 Dell laptop and I need XP on it, is the mini XP the full version or is it stripped down and can I use the reinstall disk on my Dell Laptop?
