Great for apps that need the full 768 lines.
How do you not have to scroll. THe hardware isn't capable of anything more than 600

Are you sure that this works? I used:
  • BaseMode=1024,768,32,60
But when I checked in Display Properties, it was still 1024x600.

jeff - It works

Using Astray Plus 1.4.0 beta 1.
See my astray ini file below, I also disabled igfxpers in msconfig.

With astray running, I just right click on the desktop then Properties/Settings and set the resolution to 1024x768.
Its clear it is using 768 lines, if I set the resolution any higher then it scrolls but XGA is fullscreen.
Of course the mini only has 1024x600 pixels, so some lines are being dropped but its fine for apps that need 768,
at least you can see the buttons at the bottom.

I had used astray on my eeepc it did the same thing, glad the mini does too.

Hope that helps.

How do you do this?

Edit- Just worked it out

Start > Run > 'msconfig' > Startup Tab > Uncheck igfxpers.

Ah, OK... so what I was missing also was the fact that ASTray needed to be running. I was just following the directions from the original cited page, so ASTray wasn't running on my machine.

Anyways, when I went to 1024x768, the desktop just looked gross to my eyes, so it's not for me. But thanks for digging out this bit of functionality and sharing it with the community. I'm sure that others will find it useful.

Astray only needs to be ran once - after you've setup the config file - upon executing all it does is some kind of registry edit as far as I'm aware.

I ran it once then deleted it

Running it once, then deleting it didn't give me the 1024x768 non-scrolling display. It did fix the original problem, though. Even with igfxpers disabled.

It was only when I had it running (you see ASTray.exe running in Task Manager) that the change to 1024x768 from the Properties dialog actually worked.

FINALLY! This WORKS 100%! Finally I don't have to rearrange my icons and set my resolution I have had my Mini9 since it first came out but today it became a real laptop! I am donating $5 to developer of this program I suggest you all do the same. A 48K program can fix this Dell should be ashamed of themselves and should be offering a Fix Immediately, otherwise it just shows how much they care about their customers. You find out when a company is good or bad with the support they offer for their product. They either get our money and don't care' or get our money and make sure we enjoy our product. This is my first Dell product and will determine my future purchases.

Before you go too hard on Dell, consider that they made the Mini9 for us to begin with. I have owned over 10 different Dells over the years, starting with a 325p (386 / 25mhz) back in 1991. That machine still works (well it did when I gave it to a charity about 8 months ago). Yes you can have problems getting ahold of "the person you really need to talk to"
but Dell's support is actually VERY good compared to the rest of the field.

Off-topic / tangent: Right now I think the executives that killed the palm foleo have GOT to be kicking themselves
for dropping it right before it went into production a couple years ago because they could have OWNED this whole market segment.

Cherry Red Mini9 - Ubuntu, 32GB SSD, 2GB RAM, 16GB SDHC, Bluetooth, 1.3 Webcam
- plan on setting it up to dual-boot with XP SP3, then triple-boot with MacOSX in '2009

As an aside, my issue was the ssd which coincidentally went just after I installed this software. I must give cudos to Dell. They overnighted me a new ssd that I slipped in and things worked. What is interesting is that the image on the "new" ssd had the o/s and drivers, but it did not have a lot of junk on it (e.g., MacAfee, Support Center, Video Cam, etc.). Also, is it possible that I have 128megs of video ram? That is what it seems to say under my video properties???

It did take my several hours to reinstall programs, so I think I am going to use some imaging software to make a backup.
Screenshot of the vid prefs?
Yes ... Screenshot!

That would be awesome.
