Default Installing Display Drivers (took many many hours!) - 11-06-2008, 05:04 PM

Long story short, I believe there's an issue if you install the Intel chipset drivers before installing the video driver. There's two "display adapter" type devices found in the device manager (which I think is caused by installing the chipset driver, but I'm not 100% sure.) The graphics driver autoinstaller never worked for me. It would mess up my login profile...cause a bunch of loadup EXEs to crash, etc...it was terrible. I can only imagine what it was trying to do was install the driver onto the wrong "display adapter."

What I eventually ended up doing was downloading the driver from intel's site and manually extracting the archive from the exe file by opening it up with a zip program. Then, I updated the "VGA" display driver from device manager. Then, I did the same for the other display driver.

I get a strange error message when I go to display settings, but other than that, everything seems to be working fine.

There are supposed to be two display adapters listed in device manager. The graphics chipset is dual-headed (can display different screens on the LCD and external VGA connection) and that's just how they work.

You should right click on your display adapters in the device manager, and choose to uninstall them. Then restart your system, cancel any "New Hardware Found" dialogs that come up, and try reinstalling the Intel driver.

I've re-installed XP Home and Pro a few times each on my Mini 9 at this point and I've always installed the chipset driver first, however I've experienced no issues of this type.

Yeah, I'm not sure if it was because of installing the chipset drivers first, but that's my speculation. My installer would keep giving me an error at the end of the installation process. Did you update the driver yourself or use the setup.exe or whatever installer that comes with the driver?
