Okay, I just thought I would share some information with everyone. I boot my XP Pro in 20 seconds from button to login screen. I have done these little tricks for some time now but after seeing 30+ sec boot up times that some people are talking about I figured I would share. So follow along:
1.) Navigate to Start>Run and type "MSCONFIG"
2.) Select the "BOOT.INI" tab
3.) Select the "Advanced Options..." tab at the bottom of the screen
4.) Select the "/MAXMEM=" check box and maximize the number (this is your ram)
5.) Select the "/NUMPROC=" check box and select 2 (this is your processors)
6.) Select "OK"
This is all I do because I like the GUI bootup but you could remove that for an extra 1-3 seconds by checking the "/NOGUIBOOT" checkbox.
I also bring the timeout (on the right hand side) down to 5 seconds or so even though I just hit enter during bootup anyway. This is only necessary if you have the option to pick between operating systems during bootup.
Finally, select "OK", reboot, and check the box on the first popup and click "OK" acknowledging you made changes.
I hope this helps someone here, I know I appreciated the knowledge when I first learned it!
