Default What's everyone doing with the I386 folder? - 02-13-2009, 05:55 PM

Mine is like 600+mbs.

On a machine where space is precious ... Just wondering what the rest of you have done with this folder.

I'm think compression, but this folder helps with all the driver installs.

Have you slipstreamed or changed anything, or is this from the "official" cd?

I remove the "Lang", "WIN9XMIG", "WIN9XUPG", and "WINNTUPG" folders, and integrate SP3, WMP11, Directx, IE7 and a ton of updates and mine is only 468mb. Other than the upgrades and updates, it's a full version with NO Nlite (I am very anti-Nlite). My full install ends up being right at 1gb with system restore and pagefile disabled.

Currently, I keep my i386 folder on the C: drive. But you can always offload it to a 1GB+ SD or SDHC card if need be. Just a thought.

The contents of the i386 folder are already mostly compressed. You can try compressing it (I did) but you will only free up a few MB.

I did rerun the original disc setup to clean my mbr of the dual boot. It just went and recopied all the folders, but yes this is off the included disc.
