Default Trying out XP Pro... - 10-17-2008, 09:34 PM

...any one notice the SD/MMC/MS card slot controller powering down or timing out? If I remove a card the controller times out a few minutes later and disappears from the device manager, and there are three errors in the event log (one for each slot type.)

If I put a card back in later, it powers up and reads the card just fine.

i've noticed the XP 'device unplugged' sound played a couple times when I didn't expect it... seems to be about in line with what you are describing.

That's how I noticed it. I immediately went to the event log to see what was happening and found the errors about the card controller.

Not a big deal now that I know what's happening.

I set up XP Pro on my Mini today.

I was concerned at first because the card reader didn't come up in My Computer when I restarted after it's driver install.
Only after I inserted my SD card did it come up with it's icon.

I thought it a little odd, but expected at least a couple of differences with this install over the XP Home ULCPC version.

It seems to be a power saving feature of the JMicron SD/MS controller; shutting off parts of itself that aren't in use.
