Default Help: clean install XPPro on blank internal drive - 09-21-2010, 07:30 AM

I'm giving up on OSX on my mini 9, when I upgraded to 10.5.8 everything died including my 64 GB Runcore(which is being replaced by Runcore).

I got a new internal SDC drive and restore memory stick from Dell. It was able to restore the original SDC to UBUNTU. So I have a SDC with UBUNTU and a virgin SDC.

I would like to put WIN XP Pro on one of them using an original WIN XP Pro CD and a USB CD drive. I booted from the WIN XP PRO CD and started the WIN install. It asked for some driver files (which I didn't have) so I ignored the requests and continued. The install hung up on installing network. When I boot without the external drive, I get message …file missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM.

What to do?

1st of all what the hell is an SDC?...I am guessing that you mean SSD (Solid State Drive)..being as where thats the only thing you can put in the Mini 9, 2nd, where did you get the Win XP disk from?.....a standard Windows XP disk should not need any drivers.....maybe after the install has completed you may need drivers for certain hardware on the Mini, but during the install it should require nothing....thats a problem right there

personally I would reformat the XP partition and try using a different XP disk, did you get a set of disks from Dell?....if so I would use them...if not do you have another XP install disk that you are Licensed for then try using them

Dell Mini 10 (Obsidian Black 1010), 2gb RAM, 1.6ghz 533mhz FSB (Z530) processor,A10 BIOS, 750gb WD Scorpio Blue Hard Drive (5400rpm), Intel GMA 500 Integrated Graphics, TV Tuner, Bluetooth 2.1 module with EDR, 1.3mp Camera, 1366x768 HD Screen, Wireless 1510 b/g/n mini card, 6 cell (56WHr) Battery..every option except GPS (wasnt out yet), 4gb SDHC, 8gb Flashdrive, Targus Netbook Chillpad, Targus Sport Case, Windows XP Pro SP3 (98gb)/Windows 7 Ultimate (600gb) (Dual Boot)

Default WinXPPro new disk from Microsoft - 09-22-2010, 10:17 AM

Sorry about SSD. The SSD in the mini is the new one I just got from Dell. It is unformatted.

I used a newly opened WIN XP Pro Service Pack 2 disk that I purchased from Microsoft in 2002 but never used. I used an external USB CD-R/W drive, set the drive sequence to CD first, then started the boot. It loaded most of the things but gave missing file notices which had option to cancel or ignore. It was looking for things in i386 folder.

I have since downloaded all of the drivers for the mini9 from Dell and burned them onto a CD but I don't know what to do with it.

When I boot from the internal drive (SSD) I get missing file \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
Reboot from CD, select r

I reboot from CD, type R :1 and get
C:\WINDOWS>
key CHDIR \SYSTEM32
not found
key DIR, system 32 listed with 0 bytes

Now what?

you need to reformat the SSD and reload windows..your installation never finished...nothing will work correctly until you get a clean install....you should also check into getting Windows XP SP3...after that you can download the drivers directly from the Dell site and install whats necessary
