Default BSOD when trying to instal WinXP on Latitude 2100 - 03-08-2010, 10:35 PM

Okay, so I want to install Windows XP on my Latitude 2100.

I created the bootable flash drive, and then when I choose the first option from the boot loader, the setup starts, loads some files, and then I get this annoying BSOD every time..

I really can't think of anything that might be causing this. I attached a picture showing the BSOD. Can someone tell me how to solve this?

Default BSOD installing XP - 04-11-2010, 01:08 PM

I am having the exact same problem.

I have made a post in the General section, but I thought this was the better place to post.

I want to sell my Acer A150 as my mini 1012 is being delivered tomorrow, so I am trying to put XP back on instead of Windows 7 Ultimate.

No matter what I try I get BSOD (Stop 0x0000007B) at the exact same point everytime. From what I have read on the net it may be something to do with some kind of boot file problem, but I really don't know where to start trying to fix it.

I managed to install Ubuntu without problem as well as Ultimate again, but just cannot get XP back on. I even tried Win 98, thinking that I could then upgrade to XP, but that's a no go due to lack of CD rom support

Any ideas please?

UPDATE:

Got hold of XP PRo SP3 and its going through the install process now... no BSOD - Result

Bottom line is that XP will not install after Win 7 unless it has SP2 or above Wish I knew that on Friday when I started

I think it's probably because XP SP1 did not have full USB support before the desktop loads, rather than anything to do with a prior Win7 install. You were probably getting the BSOD because setup was switching from the text to GUI portion and lost access to the USB CD drive. It's the same reason a USB keyboard does not work right after completing a pre SP2 install. Once you get to the desktop, the drivers load and you're good from that point on, but you can't get to the desktop because the USB drivers aren't loaded yet, catch 22.

This was a problem with some of the early Dells that only had USB ports and shipped with SP1 CDs. When a user had to restore from the CD, they got as far as the login screen and were stuck.

I used a slipstreamed disk from a colleague, but used my original XP Pro license key

I now have my original XP Pro CD & Key and downloaded SP3 which I am going to get him to slipstream for me

That BSOD can be a real pain sometimes, I have run into it a couple of times and it usually turns out to be something stupid I didnt do
